No.0091:Anywhere - Freedom not tied to any place
June 29,2021

It has become commonplace to connect to a high-performance computer far away from home with a not-so-high-performance personal computer and work in the same environment as working at a company. At least this kind of mechanism has been technically possible for a long time, but it has been hindered by the rigid rule that "Work should be done at the office".

When I used to commute to the city center, my wife was also working and had a small child, so I couldn't live like overtime for 150 hours a month. That said, the system construction work I'm engaged in can sometimes be harsh for a while.
Under these circumstances, I have to share the housework, so I have no choice but to work remotely from home after returning home or on holidays. However, since the results of IT work cannot be seen as a form (I think that there are similar things in many workplaces, not limited to IT), it is a pity that no one can understand the hardships that are not seen. After working without a break for three months, I was disappointed with the words of my boss, "You are not doing anything." That's why I'm very happy now that Remote Work has gained citizenship.

Again, it's really nice to be able to work anywhere, and that such a work style has gained citizenship. When I commute to the city center, it takes 3 hours for a round trip, so staying at home gave me a lot of space in my life. However, I still hear the strong commitment to going to work. The members who are managed want the manager to see directly how they are doing their best based on detailed instructions, which is very comfortable for the manager. If you leave it remotely, that won't work. Therefore, the administrator is worried whether the members are working according to their instructions. Maybe the members are lazy? The administrator has doubts. On the other hand, the members are worried whether they are following the instructions. Furthermore, the members cannot show their efforts to the manager! The members are dissatisfied. As mentioned above, there is an inefficient misery that can not be helped, such as anxiety and dissatisfaction for both members and managers. Like a poor man who always needs binding, he feels uncomfortable if he doesn't watch the woman all the time.

Of course, it's nice to be able to work without being tied to a physical place, but what's even more exciting is being able to work without being tied to a place (frame) called an organization. In 1996, when I became a member of society, lifetime employment was still commonplace. So it was thought that it would be good to cling to it, no matter how harsh the environment. That feeling certainly remains where it still remains. Many people who have lost their goals, enthusiasm, and roles long ago continue to somehow stay in places that are no longer needed. However, they often desperately resist being separated from it. On the other hand, there are many situations in which there is an overwhelming lack of manpower despite the new increase in social demand and the need for a labor force. It is in a disappointing state.

Under these circumstances, it is said that mobility, that is, the ability to move, is important. Don't leave yourself too much on the premise that you will stay in a particular organization for a long time. In other words, to enable the continuation of independence without depending on the organization, we will acquire the reproducible ability that is needed and useful in many places by continuing our efforts with anxiety and dissatisfaction as energy. It is important to keep going. Otherwise, if you lose the skills you have or the superiority of your organization, you will be in a very dangerous situation. When you change jobs, "If you can choose, please use my ability, but I do not force you." You will not be able to show such a margin to the company. You have to say, "I'll do anything! Please, put me in!", And even if you can join the company with no bargaining power, you have no choice but to follow the organization completely in terms of conditions. If you want to negotiate strangely, "If so, it's okay! Bye bye" (Actually, it's my true story.)

Now that mobility is so important, I am very attracted to mobility, which is the source of the strength of the Mongol Empire, which boasts the largest sphere of influence in history. Similar to the strength of the Mongol Empire, the kitchen car, which has recently attracted a great deal of attention due to the corona wreckage. This is because they can move freely and extremely quickly in search of demand. I recently wanted to use Airstream, a popular American camping trailer similar to these, as my headquarters. You can park at home and enjoy your time alone while feeling excited like a secret base, and when you are not feeling well, you can drive to your favorite place such as the mountains or the sea to work or relax. Therefore, depending on the method, true worcation can be realized. Sometimes you can move closer to the client and handle meetings where you have to make a lot of decisions quickly. It's a bit radical, but you can even think of becoming a real nomad who lives in the right place at any given time while traveling without having a settlement. However, it is necessary to throw away a lot of things and insistence. If it can be achieved, it will be possible to realize a life that is overwhelmingly light and smart and undisturbed by many things.
