No.0109:Gradation ~ 51:49

December 29,2023

I'm neither in favor of it nor against it, I'm more or less in favor of it, but considering the other point of view, I'm also against it. It is not uncommon to fall into such thoughts.  I feel uncomfortable belonging to an organization where the dominant mindset is that if there are two choices, one is 100% correct and the other is completely negated. Instead of the one who was not chosen, is there a middle ground that is neither? Even such an assertion would not be tolerated and could be treated as incompetence. I think that this kind of forced uniformity is at the root of the problems of new religions and corporate scandals.

You are not a... person, are you? Labeling. Sometimes yes, sometimes not. I think you should just remove the label from your life and you can ignore it. In the same way, it is also very unfortunate that people go back to their past and point out inconsistencies. People change and their decisions may differ depending on the situation they are in. Whenever possible, I want to have the awareness to keep the correctness that I believe in at that time and under those circumstances. Sometimes it is, sometimes it is not.

Bring me whoever you want and I will surely find out the crime of that person.
Beria, head of the secret police under dictator Stalin.

Sometimes it is hard when we are forced to choose one side or the other, or forced to be this way all the time. It is much easier to be aware of the middle ground. You don't have to get along with everyone, you don't always have to be as neat as God, you don't always have to say the funniest thing about the situation like a successful comedian. Sometimes we fail, sometimes we don't want to do something, and sometimes we can't do it. You can go through those times of lack of results, and one day, you can look back on them and use them as hints to turn them around for the better.

Rest when you are tired. They will not go so far.

LGBT, or sexual minorities who are physically male but emotionally female or somewhere in between, have been featured on TV and in the newspapers recently. Since marriage between couples of the same physical sex is not legally recognized, they are subjected to disadvantages and inconveniences in various aspects of daily life, from money-related matters such as taxes, insurance, and inheritance to public restrooms, employment, medical care, etc. With around 10% of the population said to have this characteristic, I think the term "minority" is inappropriate and an issue that should be viewed as normal.

Nuclear power plant shutdowns, inflation, and Russia's invasion of Ukraine have raised concerns about energy shortages. Amidst all this, the momentum for zero carbon dioxide emissions to prevent global warming from a short while ago has quickly deflated. We cannot say "zero emissions" because life comes first and we do not want to freeze. However, from a medium- to long-term perspective, measures against global warming are inevitable. Therefore, instead of radical measures such as zero emissions right now, a 51:49 policy is required, which is to use the minimum amount of fossil fuels for the present and gradually reduce their use, eventually leading to zero emissions.

It's so easy to make it black or white, to absolutize one side and ridicule the other. Moreover, if you are in tune with the many people around you, you will achieve harmony. But even if you are in tune, secretly in your mind, you should think that there is this way of balancing things. And if it is beyond your patience, you should have the courage to insist. If you still cannot be accepted, you should leave the place and defend your righteousness, that's how I feel.

We can't choose the times we live in, but we can choose how we live
