No.0110:Input → Process → Output

January 31,2023

The title is a rough description of how computers work. If the initial input (the information being fed in) is wrong, the output will also be very wrong. No matter how nice the processing (thinking) is, it is meaningless if the input information is incorrect. In the case of people, the input is listening. Here, there is a big difference. In a conversation, a conscious attitude of listening is required. While the importance of good speaking skills is sometimes strangely prized in the business world, it is not uncommon to encounter disappointments that continue to talk eloquently about things that are out of focus.

There is nothing more useless, if not dangerous, than the right answer to the wrong question.

If you cannot properly figure out what the other person "wants" in his/her mind, you will fall into complacency. Therefore, it is essential to listen. When organizing the client's requests at work, it is just right to 70% of the time to let the client talk, and I think the key is to ask the right questions to get the client to open up their mind.

In this way, the accuracy of the other person's thoughts, which may be somewhat like this, is enhanced. In addition, information accumulates in a shared folder that floats in the middle of both sides, like a common understanding, through repeated conversations and other forms of communication. By accessing this folder unconsciously, both persons can understand each other without the need for a lot of conversation. One shows the other a rough drawing and says, "Like this!" The other says, "Okay!" As if this kind of exchange would be enough.

And the need to know the information itself is much less than it used to be. I can just Google it when I need it. It's like spotify, which allows you to search and stream your favorite artists' songs when you want to listen to them without owning CD. The important thing is to combine the information you get from your search to get a unique perspective. Which situation is the target audience in, how much trouble are they in, and how can I fulfill their needs? Various answer possibilities will emerge. I want to be able to propose a well-balanced combination that is most suitable for the target person in terms of cost, ease of use, labor, and so on.

People tend to actively seek information that is good for them while keeping away from information that is bad for them. So, in some cases, it may be like overly biased justice, like the self-restraint police at the time of the Corona disaster. In addition, news that is run by companies whose goal is to earn profits (commercials) is often unreliable. Furthermore, I have seen many times organizations that are caught up by loud voices and weird ways of talking. Therefore, I want to be the one who gathers fair information (input), thinks correctly (processing), and takes appropriate action (output).

I want to be right, that kind of song.
